Book Review: Lady Luck Runs Out by Shannon Esposito

Fall tourist season in St. Pete has kicked into high gear for Darwin Winters, pet psychic, but that doesn't stop her from getting tangled up in a new murder investigation. Rose Faraday, a gypsy fortune teller, has succumbed to a rattlesnake bite in her own condo. After a run-in with the victim's traumatised cat, Darwin knows it was no freak accident. Can she find a way to prove it? Or will the killer get lucky and get away with murder?

If you read my review for Shannon Esposito's first book to this trilogy 'Karma's A Bitch', you will know how much I absolutely fell in love with Shannon's writing and ability to create such wonderful storylines. Since I enjoyed the first so much, I just had to purchase the second to see what adventure Darwin went on next.

In the first book I found out that Darwin moved to Florida in order to forget about her powers, resulting in her and her family not being on very good terms. In this one, Darwin's youngest sister Mallory comes to visit due to a certain dream, in which their passed father tells her Darwin is in trouble. Darwin and Mallory go ghost hunting and meet a cat named Lucky, Darwin has a vision showing Rose' being killed by a viscous snake. Of course, unlike everybody else, Darwin believes this was a murder and is willing to do everything to prove that she is right.

Her mission to give Rose the justice she deserves doesn't all go to plan and she risks ruining her relationship with Detective Blake, Darwin knocks his confidence of being able to do his job and sparks the jealousy inside of him when she starts spending a lot of time with Rose' son.

Unlike the first book of the series, I didn't really get attached to the new characters, but that doesn't make this book any less amazing! Darwin always gets herself involved in such fascinating mysteries and you soon switch to detective mode alongside her. I also enjoyed learning more about Darwin's powers and what she's truly capable of, but won't show.

I can't wait to get stuck in to the last of the trilogy and see what Darwin's next adventure entails!

 About the Author

Shannon Esposito lives in a magical gulf coast town with fluorescent sunsets, purple dragonflies and the occasional backyard alligator. Her mysteries transport readers to Florida without the hefty price of airfare. Although she knew from the age of fives she wanted to be a writer, she briefly entertained the idea of being a scientist, until she found out it involved math, which gives her hives.
