Book Review: Everything Changes But You by Jennifer Joyce

Ally Richmond is dreading turning thirty and bidding farewell to her youth. And when her husband says he wants to start a family, she begins to panic. Is this all that life has to offer from now on? Popping out babies and growing old gracefully? She wants a life crammed with glamour and spontaneous adventure, not one full of dirty nappies and night feeds. When Ally makes a silly birthday wish for a new, exciting life, her wish is granted. But when Ally is presented with the freedom and opportunities she craves, she soon realises this new life isn't all it's cracked up to be and that there really is no place like home.

Another fabulous book I found on Kindle Unlimited is 'Everything Changes But You', the blurb caught my eye immediately and like any movie we've watched that involves a wish (Freaky Friday * 13 Going On 30), we know something is bound to go wrong!

Ally has a very routined life, every Tuesday she would go out with the girls for a session of karaoke and gossip at their local pub and every Sunday, she would spend it at her parents. The other days would revolve working with her dashingly handsome boss, Jason and her gorgeous, free-going co-worker Kelly. When her husband decides he's ready for children, Ally begins to re-evaluate her life and realises it's still not as exciting or adventurous as she would want it to be before becoming a mother.

On her birthday, Ally makes a silly wish to be like her co-worker Kelly that changes her life in to what she always dreamed of, however, it's not all that it's cracked up to be. Before she made the wish, she had the bestest friends she could ever ask for, a great bond with her parents and siblings, and the perfect husband she had been with since they was in school. All of that turned upside down with the wish though, her friends and family despise her, she has a reputation of sleeping around and never being in a serious relationship, she was having a fling with her boss Jason and Gavin and her never got together all those years back in school because this time she was in the 'popular' crowd. Ally is also known at Alana in this new world.

Ally realises how much of a disgrace and embarrassment her new life has turned out and decides to make a few changes to clear Alana's name and prove she's a changed woman, if she's going to be stuck in this new world forever. She also sets out on a mission to find Gavin and see what his life is like now they're not together and the end result is not what she had hoped for.

Ally is an extremely likeable character and you really do hope for the best while she's figuring her way around this wish. Everybody at some point has wished for their life to be exciting and spontaneous so it was easy to relate to the character instantly. You being to really root for her and sometimes you feel yourself wanting to jump in to the book and dragging Ally's friends, family and husband back to her! The other character that really fascinated me and had a totally different background story than expected was Kelly, she was the party girl, the girl who had all the flings and didn't take life so seriously, however, her life is actually so much more complex than that and you start to feel sorry for her.

This is actually a very difficult book for me to review as there's so much I want to say but I can't otherwise there would be no point of you reading it because I'd have gave it all away! I did completely adore this book and I could never put it down, there was just so much going on that it was just not possible to turn my kindle app off. Jennifer's writing is so refreshing and great to read, she isn't a predictable writer either. Whilst some books you can predict what's going to happen next, I just could not predict any part of this book no matter how hard I tried, which I think is wonderful because you're always surprised! I've definitely took to Jennifer's writing and already have a couple more of her books downloaded on my kindle ready to be read and I can't wait for them!

You may scream internally or out loud when it comes to this book, but you will fall so in love with it and I advise you to all go purchase it as soon as you've finished reading this post!

About The Author

I'm a writer of romantic comedies who lives in Manchester with my husband and our daughters, Rianne and Isobel, plus our Jack Russell Luna and bunnies, Cinnamon and Leah.

I've been scribbling down bits of stories for as long as I can remember, graduating from a pen to a typewriter and then an electronic typewriter. And I felt like the bee's knee's typing on THAT. I now write my books on a laptop (which has a proper delete button and everything) and am published by Carina UK (HarperCollins)
