Movie Review: The Choice

Travis Parker has everything a man could ever want; a good job, loyal friends, even a waterfront home in small-town North Carolina. In full pursuit of the good life - boating, swimming, and regular barbecues with his good-natured buddies -- he holds the vague conviction that a serious relationship with a woman would only cramp his style. That is, until Gabby Holland moves in next door. Spanning the eventful years of young love, marriage and family, The Choice ultimately confronts us with the most heart wrenching question of all: how far would you go to keep the hope of love alive?

When it comes to a Nicholas Spark movie, I can never fully sit down and relax... As someone who has watched the majority of his films, you soon learn that just as you're starting to grow a love with whichever couple he comes up with, there is ALWAYS something to break your heart in to tiny pieces. I was overly excited for a new Nicholas Sparks film so yes, I forgot to put a guard up on my heart and boy was I physically and mentally crushed by the end of this film. I got so sucked up in to this beautiful story that I forgot Nicholas can be rather harsh on us and either make someone die or give us the idea that someone possibly will. WHEN WILL YOU GIVE US A PERFECTLY HAPPY LOVE STORY!!??

Travis and Gabby meet one evening when Travis is playing his music way too loud outside and Gabby has found out his dog has now knocked up hers. Travis hasn't ever wanted a woman to interrupt his easy going life, that is, until Gabby walks in to his life and he immediately falls in love. Gabby, on the other hand, isn't exactly feeling what he feels. Travis finds out Gabby is in a rather serious relationship with a Doctor called Ryan. (WHO WAS PLAYED BY FREAKING TOM WELLING AND I DIDN'T EVEN REALISE UNTIL THE SCENE WHEN THEY ALL MEET!!)

Ryan goes away for a few weeks giving Travis every opportunity to charm over Gabby. The cutest puppies arrive into the world and as Travis is a vet, he takes the puppies and Molly (the puppies mummy) to the vets at 3am in the morning to give them a check-up. Who else would do that for a girl?! Travis also invites Gabby on a day out on the boat with a few friends and family... NOW THIS PART MADE MY HEART MELT OKAY!!! Gabby joins them wearing a grey jumper and bottoms over her bikini and the girls on the boat encourage her to take it off and show off how good her body is and when she does this... GOALS. AF.

"We might be in trouble, boy"

After their day on the boat, Travis invites Gabby to a barbecue just for the two of them... As Travis never gets turned down, Gabby decided to be the first to say no. Although, about an hour or so later, she sends him a note telling him to come over for dinner, clearly showing she can't stay away just as much as he cant, she however, hides her feelings. When Travis gets to her house, she's preparing a full meal for him which surprises him as she seems to be putting a lot of effort in to a meal when she can hardly stand the man. Another favourite moment was the kitchen scene when she's cooking and he thought she was just 'whipping' something up and she tells him that is her whipping up some food, so he takes this opportunity to use his charm and says "If this is how you whip then I should get down on one knee right now".

When she slips out the words "If I made it easy, you wouldn't flirt anymore", Travis has been caught off guard but finally see's that Gabby feels the same as him and goes in for the very first kiss and let's just stay... They get it onnnnn. It's the beginning of a beautiful love affair.

They spend every day together, going on bike rides, visiting the church, celebrating Travis' passed mother's birthday and enjoying a little more sexy time.

The moment they had both been dreading comes around when Ryan returns from his trip and Gabby has a choice to make.

I'm not going to say too much but let's just say Travis puts a ring on it after a proposal that I would class as 'goals', back and fourth "Yes", "No", "Yes", "No".... And they have beautiful children together. Travis starts getting too busy at work and has stood up Gabby many times on date nights so when he is late for yet another date, he hates himself immediately as his absence could possibly be the reason
why his wife ends up in a coma fighting for her life.

Does Gabby come out of her coma or does Travis sign the 'Do Not Resuscitate' papers? I suggest you all go watch to find out! There was soooo many times during Gabby's time in the coma where I balled my eyes out because they made you think she had passed away, when Travis gets a final phone call, well... I'm not telling you what happened!

But I will leave you with this beautiful line that could possibly help you predict the ending...

"You were breathing for me, baby"
