Let's timetravel back to the 50's!

Let's time-travel back to the 50's where everything was so unbelievably perfect and everyone was in love with everything and everyone! The 50's is definitely the year I wish I was born because I couldn't imagine a more perfect world to live in than how it was in the 50's! I'm going to talk about a few topics that I absolutely adored about the 50's such as girls fashion, guys fashion, relationships, etc.

Girls Fashion

In the 1950's, people were beginning to feel more free with their choices of style and they no longer felt they had to dress a certain way. The girls wore the high waisted shorts, classy blouses, petticoats, cardigan sweaters, poodle skirts, capri pants and a lot of polka dot, bright coloured, type of dresses! I absolutely adore the 50's fashion and I hope one day my wardrobe will look like a 50's girls wardrobe, what a dream come true!

Women in the 50's were influenced by icons such as Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and my all time favourite style icon, Audrey Hepburn!

Women and teenage girls didn't have to worry about showing too much skin or wearing clothes that made them look 'trampy' because they respected themselves and always looked classy and the guys appreciated them a whole lot more.

Crop tops and high waisted shorts are such a perfect combination! I love this look so much!

Bikini's in the 50's were absolutely stunning! They weren't over revealing like nowadays and I just love the high waisted bikini bottoms!

Men's fashion

In the 50's, you had the guys who dressed preppy, with cardigan sweaters, button-down shirts etc. You also had the rebels who wore the dungarees, t-shirts and leather jackets. There was guys who was known as the 'Teddy boys' who wore their hair greased and swept back with long side burns. The icons who influence the 50's 'preppy boy' look were people such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Pat Boone, Frankie Avalon. Whereas an icon such as Elvis Presley, he influenced both the preppy boy look and the rebel look. James Dean was also a major influence for the high quiff.

You'd think these two separate styles would also separate the guys but with the iconic film 'Grease', they put both styles of guys together and formed the T-Birds. Danny and Kenickie wore the 'rebel' style, with the leather jackets, tight pants, greased hair. Doody and Putzie had the more 'preppy boy' look going on and they all meshed so well together.

It's a shame guys in 2016 won't dress as handsome as the guys in the 50's! Today, the guys wear their jeans half way down their legs with the boxers showing, trackie bottoms and 'designer' tops. Such an embarrassment!

Hairstyles

In the 1950's, hairstyles for women were very diverse. Women were inspired to have the hair colours and hair styles they got because of popular film personalities and magazines. We have the beehive style that was worn by Grace Kelly, Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor etc. Short bouffant styles were favoured mainly by the movies stars. Very short cropped hairstyles were in fashion during the early 50's  and then you have the poodle cut which both Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn pulled off flawlessly!

Relationships

The relationships in the 1950's are to die for! The guys were absolute gentlemen and the girls never had to try too hard. I think the way relationships and dates were in the 50's, we need to bring this back to 2016 because only if you're very lucky... Relationships are a complete joke!

I found a few old fashioned dating habits that I think we should bring back! Let me know if you agree with these :)

  • Coming to the door to pick your date up. (If a guy waits in the car or tells the girl to meet them somewhere, you are not off to a good start!
  • Bringing flowers or other tokens of affection to the first date.
  • Going dancing that's not grinding on a grimy club floor. Fact: The popular dances moves in the 50's were the bop, the stroll, the jive, swing, the madison, the cha cha and rock and roll.
  • Being clear about when you're 'going steady' (Many guys seem to have a hard time in announcing they're in a relationship these days)
  • Turning electronics off and just being with one another. (It doesn't hurt to put your phone away for a few hours right? Nothing should be more important than your date)
  •  Not assuming sex is to be had at any point in time. (Mainly for the guys, these days they feel that they need to sleep with a girl as soon as they can and share it with their friends, also some guys have competitions on who can sleep with the most girls... NO, NO, NO!!)
  • The guy planning a date instead of just asking the girl "what do you want to do?"
  • Not having to worry about your appearance because certain standards of physical beauty weren't as important.

Date's back in the 50's were always so much more fun, there was plenty to do and the guys always had something planned!

Skating

Drive-In Cinema

Bowling

Beach Dates

Sharing a milkshake at a diner

Double Dates

I've always thought of myself as a 50's girl and I do honestly wish that I had been born in the 50's because everything just seemed so incredible and exciting!

Do you love the 50's as much as I do?? :)
